Client Rights

The CRA operates on the fundamental belief that its clients are more likely to comply with the law if they are treated fairly and have the information, advice, and other services they need to meet their obligations. While we want to make sure you are aware of your obligations, we also want to make sure you receive all of your entitlements and that you understand and can exercise your rights. That's why, we have published a declaration and a guide on client rights both entitled Your Rights.

Declaration: Your Rights

The declaration called Your Rights pledges the CRA's commitment to client rights and fair treatment. This declaration is posted in all our service areas across Canada and is included in a variety of CRA publications, such as income tax guides. It replaces the Declaration of Taxpayer Rights.

Guide: Your Rights

The CRA's guide called Your Rights, outlines your rights in your dealings with the CRA. It contains general information on your rights in a wide range of situations. In this guide we refer to other CRA publications that contain more detailed information on your rights, entitlements, and obligations.
