Home Energy Analyser

Energuide for Houses NEWS

Welcome to Natural Resources Canada's (NRCan's) Home Energy Analyser – an online tool to help you understand what you can do in your home to make it more comfortable and energy efficient.

The Energy Analyser uses software developed by NRCan and data from NRCan's existing EnerGuide for Houses evaluations to estimate energy-use results. Your results will be determined by the information you provide, the weather data for your city or region, and information about local construction standards and styles. For details on how the Energy Analyser tool works, please review the system description.

The Home Energy Analyser guides you through a series of questions to identify characteristics of your home that affect the way it uses energy. The report directs you toward the NRCan information sources that will be most useful to you. The potential energy savings information provided in the report is modelled using NRCan data for typical houses similar in size and style to your own in your geographical region. So while it does not determine the exact amount of energy your home uses, it does reflect findings from homes like yours in your region.

Apartments

Unfortunately, the Energy Analyser cannot yet model apartments or the "walk-ups" that are typical in Montréal, for example. If you live in an apartment, keep checking back, as we hope to update this capability soon.

Getting Started

Before you start, you will need to gather some information so that the Energy Analyser can develop your home model.
