Overview

In addition to our ice information products, our Web site offers other resources to complement our regular products. The site includes reference documents to assist ice chart interpretation, ice codes and atlases with historical ice data.

Ice charts rely extensively on ice codes and symbols to permit the most efficient use of the limited map space available to describe sea ice and icebergs. This terminology is unique to those nations who maintain an operational ice service. The complete text describing ice coding can be found in our Manual of Standard Procedures for Observing and Reporting Ice Conditions (MANICE).
