Law Enforcement

Police officers work on the front-line everyday to make our communities safe.  This government is working to ensure that law enforcement have the tools and resources to do just that. We are strengthening our laws, investing in crime prevention and increasing police presence on our streets.

Investing in Canada’s national police force

The RCMP maintains a strong and vital presence in all provinces and territories. RCMP officers help protect Canadian communities by investigating threats created by issues such as organized crime, terrorism and drugs.

Canada’s new government announced close to $200 million to begin recruiting up to 1000 RCMP officers and support personnel across the country, and for the Department of Justice Canada to hire additional federal prosecutors. Funding will also go towards upgrading the RCMP National Training Academy (Depot) in Regina, Saskatchewan, to strengthen capacity to train more officers.
