Expressions of Interest

Federal Prosecutions

Interest in being considered for appointment as a legal agent for federal prosecution work can be conveyed to the Department of Justice Canada by sending your correspondence through the following e-mail address:

Federal Prosecutions: FPS_agent-mandataire_SFP@justice.gc.ca

Or by writing to the relevant office as indicated under Contact Us

Your correspondence should specify the area(s) of practice which are of interest and whether the interest being expressed is on behalf of a firm or individual. As well, submissions of interest must always be accompanied by relevant curricula vitae as well as firm profiles where applicable.

Civil Matters

The Department of Justice Canada is inviting qualified law firms across Canada to express their interest in being considered for possible appointment as legal agents of the Attorney General of Canada in a variety of practice areas, with the exclusion of federal prosecution work. Our purpose in extending this invitation is threefold: to broaden and facilitate access to federal legal work opportunities to all interested law firms; to promote government contracting principles of value and fairness in legal agent appointment practices; and to ensure that Canadians are best served by government access to a broad pool of available and competent law firms.

The names of qualified law firms will be included on an eligibility list. Departmental officials may further screen and evaluate law firms to assess their suitability, qualifications and availability against specific work or a specific case for the purposes of presenting final recommendations for appointment to the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada.

Law firms who have acted as legal agents in the past, as well as law firms which are currently working as legal agents, will need to qualify themselves through this new process in order to be placed on the eligibility list and be considered for potential future appointments. Current appointments for which work remains ongoing, will not be affected by this new process.

We have put in place an expression of interest procedure as well as a response notification form to allow you to express your interest. Law firms are required to provide an initial indication of their interest in accordance with the established procedures and to identify a principal contact within your organization for further follow-up. Please bear in mind that only one expression of interest should be submitted per law firm. Law firms with multiple offices and locations must coordinate their submission through one central contact.
