About the Clean Energy Portal

In January 2003, The CANMET Energy Technology Centre - Ottawa of Natural Resources Canada and Industry Canada joined to establish Canada's Clean Energy Portal as an internationally renowned site for clean energy technology information exchange. The award-winning Portal was designed to inform Canadian and non-Canadians about Canada's clean energy expertise and innovative clean energy industry. The Clean Energy Portal actively promotes Canadian companies to foreign businesses, investors, and governments through the Portal, at trade shows, and in brochures and presentations. The Portal uses Internet services and information technology advancements to enhance communication links and activity between individuals, institutes, industry, and government stakeholders, which accelerates and promotes the commercialization and technology transfer of climate and clean energy-related technologies. Because of its service delivery component and the participation of two federal departments, the Portal complements Canada's Government On- Line (GoL) Initiative.

To help stakeholders respond effectively to the shifting demands of the energy market and environmental requirements, the Portal's goals are to:

  • Be a one-stop source of market intelligence and information on cross-cutting issues, such as Canadian company capabilities in the area of climate change mitigation and clean energy technologies, available sources of funding, national and internal climate change issues, and events.
  • Identify Canadian providers of climate change and clean energy products and services.
  • Promote Canadian companies to non-Canadian businesses and governments through web-based and traditional marketing.
  • Assist Canadian companies in identifying potential international opportunities for their products and services.
  • Make Canadian companies accessible to non-Canadians through a user-friendly, searchable web-based database/directory. Search results will provide contact information, brief profiles, and links to Web sites of Canadian companies providing leading solutions and expertise.
  • Present a Canadian perspective of Climate Change and Clean Energy by offering information and links to Canadian government expert resources and support programs, industry associations, and export financing.
  • Promote partnerships and collaboration between industry, academia and governments to form the best alliances for development and commercialization of technologies.

The Portal is designed for and directed by its target participants:

  • Canadian providers of clean energy and climate change technologies, including consultants, manufacturers and distributors, designers, associations, etc.
  • End-Users, especially non-Canadian users of the aforementioned products and services.
  • Domestic federal, provincial, and municipal regulatory entities.
  • Research and development organizations.
