Neglected tropical diseases: a new approach to treat millions
26 October 2006 -- Today, WHO and partners are unveiling a new, coordinated approach to helping people at risk of some of the world's most neglected diseases. The approach focuses on delivering low-cost and free medicines to people to fend off diseases caused by worms. These diseases, including river blindness and elephantiasis, affect about 1 billion people today, in some of the poorest places in the world.

Diagnostics for tuberculosis: an untapped market
25 October 2006 -- A significant untapped global market exists for more effective and affordable tests to diagnose tuberculosis in low and middle income countries – where most TB cases today occur. 1.7 million people a year die from TB, many because the infection goes undiagnosed, or is diagnosed too late to be cured. A new report, Diagnostics for Tuberculosis: global demand and market potential shows how investment in improved tests could bolster TB control efforts.
