Thank you for your interest in the collections of the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation (CMCC).

The Canadian Museum of Civilization and the Canadian War Museum are pleased to encourage the responsible use of their collections.

If you wish to use, reproduce or transmit any image, text or part of the collections for purposes other than personal use (such as for a book, brochure, CD or DVD, film or video, website, poster, exhibition, etc.) you must first obtain written permission from the CMCC.

Please submit a written request with the following information:

  • Your name
  • Name of your institution or company
  • Postal address
  • Fax and telephone numbers

  • List of the material you wish to use including the photo (PCDN) and catalogue numbers

  • Detailed description of your project, such as: title of your publication, program or product; name of publisher or producer; print run; sale price; date of production; language; rights required (Canadian, worldwide, etc.).

Requests can be sent by email, fax or regular mail. However, permission grants will be sent either by fax or regular mail. Please be sure to include your fax number for a speedy reply.

If the copyright on the work is not completely controlled by the Museum, the user must obtain written permission from the copyright owner and provide the Museum with a copy of the permission before the material can be used.

Please note that user fees are applicable and will vary according to the planned usage. Unless otherwise advised, permission to use is granted on a non-exclusive and one-time basis only. The credit line, as specified by the CMCC, is mandatory.

When ordering a photograph of an artwork or artifact, whether in a traditional format (slides, color transparencies, photos) or as a digital image, please specifiy the format required.

We will be pleased to reply without delay. However, due to the number of requests, a period of ten days or more could be necessary to process your request.
