A major exhibition on the plugged-in world of communications

The 900 m² attraction features a rich array of communications technology and devices including telephones, telegraphs, televisions, radios, and even virtual reality -- a huge hit with the kids. Both the young and the young at heart are encouraged to learn by doing, touching, experiencing and having fun.

NORTEL CONNEXIONS is about history and imagination. Electric and electronic communications is a field that is changing dramatically and quickly. By preserving a record of this change we can learn how choices people made in the past have affected and will affect our lives. By looking at past and present we can think about and shape the technologies that will meet our needs tomorrow.

In NORTEL CONNEXIONS many interactive displays showcase important artifacts such as one of the first batteryless radio receivers built in Toronto in 1925 and the first short-wave radio transmitter that connected Canada to England in 1926. Inquisitive listeners satisfy their curiosity as they pick up a turn-of-the-century phone and eavesdrop on a party line. Visitors step into a period living room where they can nestle into a deep, velvet couch and relive the magic moments of early radio days. "Try it" stations are generously sprinkled throughout the exhibition where the curious learn first-hand how communications technology works.

Digital Networks
Completing the communications story, this new section features a two story walk-through digital network, a zip ride demonstrating point-to-point wireless communication, videos, computer games and artifacts. Visitors will explore how the field of communications is evolving at a rapid pace through a highly interactive and informative exhibition on the history and technology of digital communications and its impact on our everyday lives.
