Gabriel Range’s new film Death of a President imagines the assassination of sitting U.S. president George W. Bush. It’s a provocative film treatment of the presidency, but it’s hardly the first. The inner life of the leader of the free world is one of cinema’s great preoccupations, and he has been depicted as cuddly, horny, an outsider, even an action hero.
