School Programs
Our school programs combine learning and fun while helping you meet curriculum requirements.  We offer an array of program types, varying in length
and depth of focus on selected themes. With only a short walk between the two museums, consider scheduling visits to both the NGC and the CMCP!

Guided Visits

Guided Visits last 1 hour and are theme based.  Emphasis is placed on looking and discussing to reinforce ideas and concepts presented within the selected theme. During Guided Visits, students:

  • are introduced to the world of art; interact directly with original works of art; and
  • build art vocabulary and language skills.

Discovery Visits

Discovery Visits last 1.5 hours and emphasize handson, in-gallery activities to engage students in the selected theme. During Discovery Visits, students:

  • develop their own creative and expressive skills through the combination of a gallery visit, discussion, and activities;
  • are introduced to the basic elements of art through looking, discussion, and hands-on discovery; and make connections to their personal experiences.

Studio Activities

Studio Activities generally last 2 hours and combine a thematic guided visit with a related hands-on activity in the Studio. During Studio Activities, students:

  • develop creative and expressive skills;
  • become familiar with artists’ use of specific materials and techniques; and
  • learn how materials and techniques are manipulated by artists to convey various  thoughts and emotions.
