The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC)

process, except information granted confidentiality, whether sent by
postal mail, facsimile, e-mail or through the Commission’s website at
www.crtc.gc.ca, becomes part of a
publicly accessible file and will be posted on the Commission’s
website. This information includes your personal information, such as
your full name, e-mail address, postal/street address, telephone and
facsimile number(s), and any other personal information you provide.Documents received electronically or otherwise will be put on the
Commission’s website in their entirety exactly as you send them,
including any personal information contained therein, in the official
language and format in which they are received. Documents not received
electronically will be available in PDF format.
The personal information you provide will be used and may be
disclosed for the purpose for which the information was obtained or
compiled by the Commission, or for a use consistent with that purpose.
The federal
Privacy
Act states that you have the right, under certain
circumstances, to access any personal information about you under the
control of a government institution and to request changes to
incorrect information. To access your personal information, contact

notify us about incorrect information use our electronic form or call
819-997-0313 or toll-free 1-877-249-2782.
If you do not wish to
have your personal information posted on our website and placed on the
public file, please contact our office by using our electronic form or by
calling 819-997-0313 or toll-free 1-877-249-2782. IMPORTANT NOTE: If
you do not wish to have your information on the public file then your
participation in the proceeding may be considered to be withdrawn and
the information you submitted to the Commission will be deleted. We
will remove your information within 2 business days of your request.
If you check our site after the 2 business days, you will be able to
see that the information has been deleted.
However, you should be aware that some search engines cache, or store
information for a period of time. It is possible that if you use one of
these search engines to view the stored information that your personal
information will still be in their cache and will appear on their site.
The CRTC has no control over how long these search engines keep their
information without updating it, nor do they respond to our requests to
update their cache.

What you can do to help safeguard your privacy.
In order to help safeguard your privacy, make sure you only provide the
personal information that is required.
The Commission has some services that require you to use a username and
password to communicate or exchange information. When using such a service,
you can take the following steps to help maintain your privacy.
- Do not share your username and password with anyone.
- Memorize your password instead of writing it down.
- Ensure your password is meaningful to you but not to others.
Also, you can maximize security by making sure that you:
- Do not use your name as your username.
- Do not use personal numbers like birth or anniversary dates, partial
telephone numbers, family names or the names of pets.
- Change your password every 3 to 6 months
- Do not leave your computer unattended after you have logged in.
- Close your browser when you are finished with your session.

Your personal information and maintaining the
security of our website
The CRTC employs software programs to monitor network traffic, to
identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information or to
otherwise cause damage. The software receives and records the Internet
Protocol (IP) addresses of computers that have contacted our website, the
date and time of the visit and the pages visited. We make no attempt to
link these addresses with the identity of individuals visiting our website
unless an attempt to damage our site has been detected.
Questions or comments regarding this policy, or the administration of
the
Privacy Act at the CRTC, may be directed to the Access to
Information and Privacy Coordinator by using the
