First Place 2006 SIGTel Online Learning Award for Galileo

Each year the Special Interest Group for Telelearning (SIGTel), a Special Interest Group of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), recognizes creative educators for their pioneering use of telelearning activities to provide innovative learning opportunities for students in Grades K-16. This year the, The Calgary Stampede and Treaty 7 First Nations: A Historical Perspective will receive this 2006 SIGTel Online Learning award in San Diego July 5 - 7, 2006 at NECC (National Educational Computing Conference).

In May 2006, Our Roots launched its new web site, designed to be more accessible for all users. The Our Roots project is the world’s largest digital collection of published Canadian local histories. Thousands of French and English titles are now available online and the collection continues to grow.

  • 175,000 pages of information added since April 2005
  • Combined search of author, title, subject and full text for topics of general interest
  • A map of Canada that allows you to target your search to a particular province
  • Searching by chapter title, as well as main title of the work
  • Browsing by author, title, and subject
  • Ability to link together works with the same author or subject heading
  • Ability to search by date of the work
  • Updated FAQ information
  • New educational resources from Galileo and iXMedia
