Recent Public Sector Acquisitions
The National Archives regularly acquires new records
(fonds, collections, items) from federal institutions. The following is only a small selection of records
acquired in the past three years.
Please note that access to the records of federal
institutions is governed by
the Access to Information Act
and the Privacy
Act.
Major Acquisitions, 1997-2000
1. Records of the Office of the President of the
Canadian International Development Agency, 1968-1989.
2. Records of the
Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, 1963-1995.
3. Censorship and court martial records from
the Department of National Defence, 1939-1945.
4. Personnel files for members of the
North West Mounted Police and the Royal Northwest Mounted Police, 1905-1919.
5. Records of the
Commission of Inquiry into the Deployment of Canadian Forces in Somalia, 1992-1997.
6. A total of 729 microfilm reels of records from the
Department of Citizenship and Immigration containing ship passenger lists and border crossing
lists, 1920-1935.
7. A wide range of records, some dating back to the
mid-1850s, transferred from the Canadian National Railway Company.
8. Several accessions related to the management and
development of natural resources created by the Northern Affairs Program of the
Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development, 1970-1990.
