Consultation of records

  1. Any person visiting the Music Division for the first time must fill out a registration form, entering his or her name, telephone number, and research subject(s).  The personal information provided on this form is protected under the Privacy Act

  2. All archival records must be handled with care. 

  3. Researchers must respect the classification order of folders and records. 

  4. Researchers undertake not to remove records from the Reading Room. 

  5. It is strictly forbidden to mark or fold records. 

  6. Researchers must use a lead pencil, a portable computer, or a personal tape recorder when making notes.  Pens are not permitted. 

  7. The wearing of cotton gloves is mandatory when handling negatives, slides, photographs, and textual records. 

Document reproduction

  1. National Library staff will make all photocopies and copies of other media. 

  2. It is the responsibility of the researcher to contact the donor or rights holder(s) to obtain permission for the reproduction of restricted documents, including photographs and audiovisual recordings. 

  3. The staff may prohibit the reproduction of certain documents because of their condition. 

  4. No researcher may request more than 150 photocopies per quarter year. 

  5. No researcher may request more than 4 hours of reproduction of sound and video recordings per quarter year for their own personal use.  Copying is only undertaken when written permissions have been provided by the researcher from all rights holders.
