Student Handout

A Journey Through Time
(paper-based activity)

This activity introduces students to migration to and within Canada. Students are guided through a research process to find information on the migration of their ancestors. They place their families in the multicultural mosaic of Canada.

The student handout provides simple, step-by-step procedures to guide students through the research process, enabling them to conduct research drawing from their family histories, the Internet and local community resources.

EuGENEus accompanies the students as they learn, interjecting questions and comments.

Students are introduced to the following topics:

  • vocabulary associated with migration and genealogy;
  • a systematic research process;
  • locating and recording research data;
  • push and pull factors that influenced Canadian migration;
  • organizing and classifying research and information.
