Sustainable Development Strategy
2004-2006

Environment Canada's Sustainable Development Strategy 2004-2006 highlights for Canadians key commitments that the department will undertake over the next three years to further our sustainable development obejctives, to participate in building a government-wide approach to sustainable development, and to address our international sustainable development agenda.

The Sustainable Development Strategy 2004-2006 builds upon the strengths of our previous Strategy by continuing to advance four themes that have shaped the department's approach in recent years: Information for Decision Making; Innovative Instruments; Partnerships for Sustainable Development; and, Managing for Sustainable Development.

SDS 2004-2006 is designed to strengthen Environment Canada's capacity to make policy and programming decisions that advance sustainable development and to deliver the information and tools that will enable Canadians to better support sustainable development. The attached document summarizes the essential themes and directions of Environment Canadaā€™s SDS 2004-2006 in a one-page format.

Environment Canada will report annually on the Department's progress in achieving the commitments and outcomes set out in SDS 2004-2006.
