The Honourable Rona Ambrose to head the Canadian Delegation to the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Nairobi


OTTAWA, November 12, 2006 — Media representatives are advised that the Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of the Environment, will represent Canada at the Ministerial-level meetings of the United Nations Climate Change Conference from November 14 to the 17 in Nairobi, Kenya.

While at the Conference, Minister Ambrose will highlight Canada's first ever legislative plan to address air pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions. She will deliver Canada's national statement in the High Level Segment and participate in the Convention Dialogue which takes place concurrently. The Minister will also engage in a series of bilateral meetings with delegates and senior officials representing nations expected to play a key role in leading discussions on international actions on climate change.

This meeting in Nairobi comprises the 12th Conference of the Parties (COP12), which will deal with matters under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, and the 2nd Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (COP/MOP2), which will deal with matters under the Kyoto Protocol.
