Bilateral Relations

Flag, Canada    Flag, Netherlands

Canada — Netherlands

In 1988, the two Ministers of Environment signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Environmental Collaboration with a view to establish a comprehensive policy dialogue between Canada and the Netherlands in the field of environment.

Project Implementation

IRD's International Policy and Cooperation Branch is the coordinator for the MOU.

Illustration of Work

One active collaboration is in the field of environmental impact assessment. Workshops have been held, both in Canada and in the Netherlands, on a regular basis.

A number of bilateral activities have been carried out on an ad hoc basis, such as scientific missions and workshops on indicators of ecotoxicology, environmental quality guidelines, behaviour of contaminants in sediments and development of optimum remediation techniques.
