Objectives and Commitments

Signed under the auspices of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), this Convention seeks to: minimize significant adverse transboundary environmental impacts of certain projects that are likely to cause adverse transboundary impacts; ensure that an environmental assessment is undertaken for those projects; provide to the government and public of an affected country an opportunity to participate in the environmental assessment; and ensure that the results of the environmental assessment are taken into account in the final decision about the project.
