VIRTUAL EXHIBIT LAUNCHED: "EXPLORING 60 YEARS OF CREATING OPPORTUNITIES"OTTAWA - October 2, 2006 - This year marks the 60th Anniversary of Canada Savings Bonds. In honour of the long and proud history of Canada Savings Bonds in our country, a virtual exhibit has been developed to explore how Canada Savings Bonds have created opportunities for Canadians. Canada Savings Bonds are a unique Canadian icon having contributed to helping the Canadian economy and Canadians of all ages save for their dreams and meet their financial goals. The exhibit was launched today as part of the Canada Savings Bonds 60th Anniversary Celebration and Campaign Launch. The exhibit, developed with the support of the Currency Museum of the Bank of Canada and the Virtual Museum of Canada, brings to life the history of Canada Savings Bonds using a curatorial layout style, with archival footage and present day interviews. The exhibit is organized into three eras: 1940s, 1970s, and 2000 and beyond. Virtual photographs featuring authentic Canadian items from that period represent each era. By clicking on a photograph, visitors journey through the interactive elements built into the site. A unique feature of the exhibit is an interview with Mrs. Jean Spear, a Canadian War Bride.
