The dining room was used by the Lauriers for entertaining and later by William Lyon Mackenzie King. In the Lauriers’ time, formal dinners were held for cabinet members every Wednesday and Saturday. Informal dinners were often held for friends and family during the rest of the week. King valued his privacy and opened his home less readily to visitors. When he did interrupt his routine to entertain, he did so with style. Some of the luminaries who dined in this room with King were Sir Robert and Lady Borden, Ramsey MacDonald, the Prince of Wales, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth.
