CMPI is an index of articles from Canadian music periodicals. CMPI is a free service provided by the National Library of Canada. Texts of articles are not available from this site, but can be obtained through interlibrary loan at your local library. The CMPI database includes nearly 30 000 entries on articles dating from the late-19th century to the present day. 500 Canadian music journals, newsletters and magazines are represented here, almost 200 of which are currently active and continue to be indexed. A complete list of the periodical titles that have been included in CMPI is available on this website. The CMPI database focusses on articles and news items touching various aspects of musical activity in Canada. In addition, since 1999, significant articles on international music and musicians, published in Canadian periodicals, have been added to the index. Each entry in the CMPI database has been assigned one or more searchable name or subject headings as appropriate. Browse by name to view a complete list of searchable names in the database. These can be individuals, associations, institutions, ensembles, or other specific names. Browse by subject to view the range of searchable topics, such as cultural policy, jazz, reed organs and Jewish music, included in the database. Entries can be searched using any combination of subject, name, author, title, periodical, geographical area, type of article (obituary, review, interview, etc.) and date.
