Banner: Music Archives

The Music Division holds more than 300 archival fonds and collections from Canadian musicians and musical organizations, occupying some 700 linear metres of shelf space.

Dedicated to documenting the many facets of Canada's musical life, the fonds represent concert and popular music primarily of the twentieth century. These include the archives of composers (Claude Champagne, Oskar Morawetz, André Prévost, R. Murray Schafer, Harry Somers, etc.), performers (Éva Gauthier, Glenn Gould, Lois Marshall, André Mathieu, etc.), jazzmen (Paul Bley, Oscar Peterson), popular music stars (Randy Bachman, Manteca, etc.), as well as of organizations (Canadian Council of Music, the Canadian League of Composers, etc.).

Researchers will find a description of each archival fonds and collection, as well as information on how to access the documents, in the general finding aid: Music Archives at the National Library of Canada: A Guide.

For further information concerning music archives, contact the Music Division by e-mail (mus@lac-bac.gc.ca), by telephone at 613-996-5115 or 1-866-578-7777 (toll free in Canada and the U.S.), or by fax at 819-934-7272.
