N° du document (ISN) : 62555
Titre: [Dieppe = German Repulse of Dieppe Raid]
Titre original : Byzondere Uitgaiie
N° d'acquisition : 1977-0205

Description :

This captured German film is about the successful German defensive repulse of the Allies' illfated attempted raid on the French coastal town of Dieppe on August 18, 1942. The German account exaggerates the Allied force's strength and makes clear that the force was mainly mustered from American and British components. The segment highlights the Germans' quick reaction and well-executed defensive battle drills in both their land (coastal artillery, field artillery and infantry) and air (anti-aircraft and Luftwaffe fighter squadrons) components that decimated the Allied landing. Shots of the Dieppe coastal area with dead and destroyed allied personel and equipment littered on the rocky beach. Shots of mainly Canadian prisoners of war being rounded up and marched from the beach through the town.
