2006 Agatha Bystram Award for Leadership in Information Management

(Ottawa, October 18, 2006) - Library and Archives Canada and the Council of Federal Libraries presented the 2006 Agatha Bystram Award for Leadership in Information Management to Rene Tapp of the Canada Revenue Agency for his outstanding contribution to information resources management. The awards ceremony was held on October 2, in conjunction with the Information Management Community Recognition Awards, at the 6th Annual Government of Canada Information Management Conference.

Rene Tapp used his extensive knowledge of information management strategies, including the application and implementation of metadata, to create a foundation of authoritative online content allowing tax program delivery through phone and in-person channels. The Canada Revenue Agency website is now an established service delivery channel that supports the self-reliance of taxpayers and benefit recipients.

Honourable mentions went to Industry Canada's Guylaine Brunet, Jane Kralik and Stacey Wade for their work with BizPal, an online permits and licences service. BizPal is a self-service, Web-based tool that helps business clients generate a customized list of the permits and licences they require from all levels of government to start or expand their business.

Now in its 12th year, the award commemorates Agatha Bystram, one of the federal library community's most respected pioneers in the management of federal information. It recognizes her tremendous contribution as a librarian and an innovator, and encourages continued progress in the management of federal information resources by recognizing other innovators in her name.
