KEEPERS OF THE FRAME

A feature documentary on film preservation and restoration

(English only)

OTTAWA, November 3, 1999  --  The National Archives of Canada will host a screening of Keeper of the Frames a 1998 feature-length documentary film that presents an in depth view of the history, science and struggles of those committed to film preservation. The screening, open to the public, will be held Monday, November 8, 1999 at 7:30 p.m. at the National Archives of Canada, 395 Wellington Street, Ottawa.

Keepers of the Frame will be of interest to anyone who cares about the preservation of our audio-visual heritage. Film buffs, historians, curators, film-makers, teachers, writers - anyone who might ever want access to our past 100 years in images and sound will enjoy this thoughtful and thought-provoking production.

The film "is as entertaining as it is informative and comprehensive" says the Los Angeles Times reviewer. "...stretches the definition of what’s worth saving, as well as how it should be saved", says the New Times Los Angeles review.

Although the content is primarily American, the film portrays the challenges facing all those, who strive to "keep the frame" as an important part of the record of a country’s values, culture and evolution as a society.

The screening will be attended by the producer, Randy Gitsch of Mount Pilot Productions, Denver, Colorado, and William O’Farrell of the National Archives of Canada who will be available to answer questions after the screening. Translation services will be provided for the question and answer session.
