Scoop! A Salute to 160 Years of the Ottawa Citizen

Scoop!, presented by the Ottawa Citizen and Library and Archives Canada, is an exhibition of the newspaper's memorabilia, photographs and illustrations. The exhibit also includes selected items from Library and Archives Canada's art, photography and manuscript collections, as well as some artifacts from the Canada Science and Technology Museum.
Scoop! will appeal to all who are interested in the history of print media and the National Capital Region.

The Rise and Decline of Railways in the Ottawa Area

Early Iron Age Archaeology and Culture of the Eastern Aegean

Turkish archaeologist Yasar Ersoy, from Bilkent University, questions the Athenian origin of Greek settlements in Ionia after the Trojan War. New evidence discovered at his own excavations at Klazomenae as well as Ephesos and Troy, has Professor Ersoy drawing some very interesting conclusions.

Ottawa writer Mark Frutkin's latest novel, Fabrizio's Return, is set in Italy in in the late 1600s and the mid 1700s. His affection for his characters has produced a book that is packed with delights, from romance to alchemy to cracks in time. Rukmini Bhaya Nair is a professor of Linguistics and English at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, India. She has published three volumes of poetry, The Hyoid Bone, (1992), The Ayodhya Cantos (1999) and "Yellow" Hibiscus: New and Selected Poems, (2004), all with Penguin India.

Pablo Urbanyi book launch

Canadian-Argentine-Hungarian writer Pablo Urbanyi's Silver has just been published in English by Mosaic Press. This evening, Dr. José María Ruano de la Haza, Director of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, University of Ottawa will introduce the work and Hugh Hazelton, the book's translator, will read selections from it. Silver was a finalist for the prestigious Planeta Argentine Award after it was published in Argentina in 1994.
Event co-sponsored by the Hungarian Embassy and the Canada-Hungary Educational Foundation to mark the 50th anniversary of the arrival of Hungarian refugees to Canada.

The sixth annual Central European Film Festival is presented by the CFI in collaboration with the Embassy of the Slovak Republic, Embassy of the Czech Republic, the Embassy of the Republic of Hungary, and the Embassy of the Republic of Poland. All films are Ottawa premieres.

Library and Archives Canada is pleased to welcome here, for the first time, the Outaouais Film Festival, now in its eighth year taking place this year from March 16 to 24.
More than 100 films originating from 20 different countries will be shown at the above dates in the auditorium of Library and Archives Canada. Other screenings will take place at the Théâtre du Casino in the Casino du Lac-Leamy, the Canadian Museum of Civilization, the Galeries d'Aylmer Cinema and at Cinéma 9 in Gatineau.
This popular film festival allows local cinephiles to not only attend the Canadian premières of these films but also view a retrospective of the best Quebecois films of 2005.
Many European and Canadian celebrities will be attending press conferences, master classes for the public and gatherings for cinephiles. Films are shown in their original language with sub-titles in either English or French.

Bowser and Blue

George Bowser and Rick Blue have been writing and performing music and comedy together since 1978. Rick plays acoustic guitar and harmonica. George plays electric and acoustic guitars. Bower and Blue's irreverent, intelligent and sometimes just plain silly comedy has tickled the funny bones of appreciative audiences in theatres and concert halls, and on TV and radio. Concert presented by the Ottawa Folk Festival.

Opera Insights: Falstaff

Hosted by Joanne and Tyrone Paterson, this three-hour program will introduce you to the music, history and theme of the opera Falstaff, written by Verdi. You will also meet some of the principal artists in Opera Lyra Ottawa's production of the opera to be performed on April 8, 10, 12, and 15, at the National Arts Centre.
