The Search Continues!

In the 19th century, many explorers were beginning to be more interested in the scientific exploration of the land and the people than in just finding new routes to riches. There were some explorers who still felt there was a shorter way to Asia than the known route around Africa or South America. As explorers continued to search for a Northwest Passage over America they mapped Canada's north at the same time. It was a journey filled with danger, mystery and tragedy.

This part of the Passageways: True Tales of Adventure for Young Explorers website looks particularly at the northern explorers of the time and how they finally found a way through to the Pacific.
