What's New

On July 1st come to the National Archives
and meet some famous Canadians

June 29,1999

This Canada Day you don’t have to go to Parliament Hill to meet famous Canadians. Instead, plan to visit the new exhibition Critical Acclaim: Portraits from the National Archives of Canada.

From Jacques Cartier and John. A. Macdonald to Terry Fox and Julie Payette, Critical Acclaim brings together 51 unique and original paintings, photographs and posters of famous and not so famous people who have helped to build Canada from the 16th century to today.

Located at Archives in the Market, 136 St. Patrick St. (corner of Sussex Drive) in Ottawa’s Byward Market, Critical Acclaim will be open on Canada Day from 10 am to 6 pm. Admission is free and a variety of special activities for visitors both young and old will be offered:

ml.jpg (468 bytes) Say Cheese!: Look for our giant picture frame and have your photo portrait taken for free. A unique Canada Day souvenir from the National Archives.
ml.jpg (468 bytes) Critical Acclaim Challenge: A game for children that uses visual and written clues to encourage them to explore the exhibition and learn more about Canada’s past.
ml.jpg (468 bytes) Critical Acclaim Quiz: Test your knowledge of Canadian history and enter our draw for special prizes.
