Collection Development Framework for Library and Archives Canada

In March 2005, Management Board of Library and Archives Canada (LAC) approved a Collection Development Framework that signals a new collection policy direction for the new institution and a framework for collection development activities based on LAC strategic directions and priorities. Fundamental principles to guide collection development activity and key directions for the years 2005-2010 are outlined with recommended actions in five strategic areas. In particular, the framework addresses corporate priorities related to the concept of one integrated LAC collection, the development of an acquisition strategy in the context of collaboration with partners and with other institutions in Canada, and the collection and preservation of digital materials.

The Framework sets an overall strategic direction within which LAC collection policies will be expanded and enhanced in consultation with stakeholders and partners.
