Graphical element Description
Graphical element Graphical element Marc Lescarbot (1570-1642), a Paris lawyer and writer, became interested in New France when a client, Jean de Biencourt de Poutrincourt, told him of his travels. In 1606, Lescarbot participated in the first voyage of Champlain and Pierre Du Gua de Monts to Acadia. Before leaving the port of La Rochelle, Lescarbot composed and publicly recited this poem, a blend of regrets and memories written in the classical style. Lescarbot also wrote the first play to be staged in New France, which was performed in Port-Royal.
