Into the Second Century

The centennial celebrations, crowned by the world fair, Expo' 67 in Montreal, were milestones in the country's history. As a dynamic and diverse society, Canada continues to develop. In the '60s, Quebec's "quiet revolution" brought a renewal of nationalism in a vibrant culture. In 1999, Nunavut became Canada's third northern territory. The First Nations strive to reclaim hereditary rights that they believe have not been recognized. Immigration continues to enrich our society.

Individuals and institutions record their stories in ever-increasing amounts. Computers and contemporary media have expanded our abilities to create, communicate and store information. The National Archives is meeting the challenge of the information age and will continue to collect and preserve our stories so that future generations can build on a past they can access and appreciate.
