While the Canadian amateur circuit lacked its own photographic magazine until relatively late (the early 1930s), serious amateur photographers in this country belonged to a thriving art salon culture. In addition, those who simply took photographs for their own pleasure were often inspired by the aesthetics of the natural and built environments that surrounded them.
