Architectural drawing of the east and west elevations of the Centre Block, 1859

Old Centre Block Plans

“The ceiling of the passages and of many of the rooms of the Parliament Buildings are made of pine wood, varnished, which being wrought into ornamental cornices and panels produce a rich and very fine appearance. The same material has been used for the doors. The fillings around the grates and mantle-pieces are of polished Arnprior marble; it is greyish blue marble of very fine grain, and capable of being polished to a high degree. All the floors are supported by rolled iron girders, and filled in between with cement. ”

from Hand Book to the Parliamentary and Departmental Buildings, Canada, by Joseph Bureau (1867)
