GENERAL INFORMATION

Important Information on Passports and Visas
A valid passport is required for entry into Canada. Citizens of certain countries may require a visitor visa for entry into Canada. Before finalizing your plans, be sure to check the requirements that apply to you with your travel agent or the Canadian embassy or consulate.

Insurance
Neither the organizers nor Library and Archives Canada are able to take responsibility for injury or damage to persons or properties during the conference. Participants are therefore kindly requested to take out their own insurance.

Banks
Most banks are open from Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. They offer 24-hour cash machines (ATMs) that are available seven days a week.

Climate and Clothing
September is autumn in the National Capital Region and average temperatures range from 9 to 20 degrees Celsius, with an average temperature of 14 degrees. As evenings and nights may be cool, we recommend that you bring a sweater, an overcoat or raincoat and an umbrella.

Smoking
On August 1, 2001, the City of Ottawa passed a by-law banning smoking in all public places.

Internet Café
Delegates will have access to an Internet café during the Forum. The Internet café will be installed in room 158 of the main building of Library and Archives Canada, adjacent to the auditorium where the Forum will take place.

Simultaneous Translation
The receiver (headset) supplier will be located just outside the auditorium. There is no charge for the headsets, but it will be necessary to leave one item of photo identification to obtain one (a drivers' license is suggested). Your ID will be returned to you when you return the headset at the end of each day. While you can leave your photo health card, this is not recommended in case a health emergency requires the use of the card. If you have any questions or require clarification, please contact Cindy Hick by telephone at 613-726-7111 or by e-mail at hick@bellnet.ca.
