HIGHLIGHTS: Photographer's Showcase

Harry Rowed (Henry Newton Rowed) (b. 1907)

Before the start of the Second World War, Harry Rowed began his photographic career working for a variety of businesses, including newspapers, the Canadian National Railways and Trans-Canada Airlines. During the War, Rowed accepted a wartime posting with the Bureau of Public Information and subsequently the National Film Board where he ultimately became the head of the still photography operations. After the War, he operated his own business as a industrial photographer documenting logging, mining, fishing, and other industries for private companies. These photographs illustrate the economic development of western Canada through the region's growing cities and natural resources. Rowed did not limit his work to Canada, visiting Mexico, Portugal, Greece and many other countries.
