Since 1989, the National Library has mounted an annual campaign to promote the joy of reading and raise awareness of Canadian children's literature among young people. Each year, the Read Up On It kit contains an annotated reading list of award-winning Canadian books in both official languages, as well as a list centred around a specific theme, compiled by the Canadian Children's Literature Service.

Welcoming you to this publication are messages from Marianne Scott, National Librarian and James E. Page, Executive Secretary, National Literacy Secretariat, Human Resources Development Canada.
