Tracking Time: Description

The contribution of railways to the growth and development of Canada can be explored through several themes, some of which are found here. For example, nation building provides a brief look at how the federal government used railways as a unification tool. The growth of tourism explains what led to the creation of the railway advertising that forms the basis of this exhibit. Important Canadian events such as the Northwest Rebellion and The Depression are also connected to railways and trains.

This section is illustrated with railway promotional material and photographs from the collections of the National Library and the National Archives.
