59 receive Order of Canada

[Photo :] Jazz pianist Oscar Peterson receives decoration from Govenor-General Roland Michener who invested him as an officer of the Order of Canada at Ottawa Wednesday.

OTTAWA (CP) - Only two persons failed to show up Wednesday to officially receive their Order of Canada at a gala Government House investiture.

While 59 persons, for the first time mainly noted for regional accomplishments or services, were presented to Gov.-Gen. Roland Michener, Guy Mauffette of Montreal and Robert Prevost of St. Lambert, Que., were not.

No reason was given for their non-appearance.

Those receiving the higher Companion of the order were Fernand Choquette - former judge in the Quebec Court of Appeal and member of the provincial legislature; J. V, Clyne of Vancouver, chairman of the board of MacMillan Bloedel Ltd.; playwright and author Robertson Davies of Toronto and Air Chief Marshall F. R. Miller of Ottawa, former chief of the defence staff.

Among those invested as officers of the order were J. F. Leddy of Windsor, Ont., president and vice-chancellor of the University of Windsor; photographer Roloff Beny of Lethbridge; jazz pianist Oscar Peterson of Toronto and Dr. Katharine McLennan of Sydney, N.S., honorary curator of the fortress of Louisbourg.

There were 30 members of the order invested, including painter Nicholas de Grandmaison of Banff and retired Anglican deaconess Dr. Hilda Hellaby of Whitehorse, Y.T.
