Oscar Wins International Acclaim

The Mississauga News, July 30, 1989

Ooh-la-la! Mississauga’s Oscar Peterson has wooed and won France with his jazz music.

The French government made Peterson an Officer in the Order of Arts and Letters through the Ministry of Culture.

The French government has ever bestowed this honor on only two other people in the jazz field, namely Ray Charles and Miles Davis.

Peterson, who is currently on tour in the south of France performing at the festivals, is also a Companion of the Order of Canada.
