Trip of Edwin Woodward
[textual record]

Series Part of:
Edwin Woodward and family fonds

Date(s):
[1882]

Extent
    0.008 m of textual records (31 p.).

Scope and content
Series consists of a diary was kept by Woodward during his homesteading expedition to the North West Territories. The entries were only made consistently during the period 21 April to 3 June, recording his trip from St. Paul, Minnesota, to Brandon and the subsequent trip by ox-cart to the Qu'Appelle/Pile-of-Bones Creek area, and comprise only 12 of the diary's 31 pages. The remainder consists of an itinerary, itemized expenses, notes, calculations, list of cattle purchased, and drafts of letters written during and after the trip. The daily entries record the events of each day's journey and refer to such topics as hunting for food, meals, the search for good land, and hardships such as floods, getting stuck, sickness, snowstorms, and an internal disagreement.
