Introduction
Welcome to Faces of War. This virtual exhibition features photographs of men and women who served in the Canadian Forces during the Second World War. The photographs, taken from the Department of National Defence (DND) collection at Library and Archives Canada (LAC), depict every aspect of military life during the Second World War.
Visitors to the site can search a database of almost 2,500 images from the DND collection, or they can browse small galleries of images representing each branch of the Canadian Forces: Army, Navy and Air Force. Those who would like to visit LAC in person can refer to "Finding Photographs at Library and Archives Canada," a page which describes how to use the various finding aids to access the full collection of DND photographs.
This site commemorates the courage, dedication, and sacrifice of the men and women it depicts. We hope that these images will bring back memories, and we invite you to share those memories. This fall, LAC will be adding a section to this website which will allow you to share your memories online.
