About Virtual VaultWhat is the Virtual Vault?Road between Kingston and York, Upper Canada, circa 1830 The purpose of this project is to develop a 3D gallery for the online presentation of Library and Archives Canada (LAC) content. As a first step, LAC has developed a small three-dimensional module, consisting of a virtual room with the ability to display digital images and audio. This new technology aims to capture the look and feel of a physical exhibition. Archival descriptions for some works of art may be updated periodically to reflect more recent information about items featured in this exhibition. AcknowledgementsJim Burant, LAC's manager of Art, Photography and Philatelic Archives, provided the content of this site. Jim wrote the thematic essays, selected the works of art, and provided curatorial expertise, a sizeable undertaking for which we are extremely grateful. Thanks also to Geneviève Morin and Jennifer Devine for their assistance with the image metadata. We also gratefully acknowledge the financial assistance of the Department of Canadian Heritage, whose Canadian Culture Online Program (www.pch.gc.ca/cdcci-icccn/index_e.cfm) made this work possible. How do I give LAC my feedback? This site is intended to demonstrate LAC's first steps toward a new 3D environment for our Web clients. This technology is still very early in its development, and we want to ensure that future versions reflect the needs of our clients. Please take a moment to leave us a comment and help us shape the future of our online services! About Virtual Vault | Educational Resources | Comments | Copyright/Sources |
