Famous Canadian PhysiciansThis site celebrates the achievements of Canadian doctors who have gained fame in Canada or internationally for their dedication, contributions and innovations. In addition to a brief essay on the history of Canadian medicine, Ottawa-based author Deborah Cowley developed biographical essays on each of the following physicians: Sir Frederick Banting, Dr. Norman Bethune, Dr. Gustave Gingras, Sir William Osler, Dr. Wilder Penfield, Dr. Emily Stowe and Dr. Lucille Teasdale. Each essay is accompanied by digitized images, textual documents and audio visual material to illustrate the lasting legacy of these famous Canadians. To assist with more in-depth study, a bibliography and website links are provided in the Further Research section. AcknowledgementsThe Famous Canadian Physicians exhibition was produced by the Web Content and Services Division of Library and Archives Canada. We gratefully acknowledge the contribution of the Department of Canadian Heritage, whose financial assistance through Canadian Culture Online (CCO) made this work possible. |
