Introduction
The Literary Manuscripts Collection of Library and Archives Canada contains a wealth of materials related to some of Canada's most celebrated writers. Much can be learned about these authors by an examination of the collection's manuscripts, typescripts, correspondence, journals and notebooks. Over time, Library and Archives Canada plans to present an ever-growing selection of these materials on this website. With this third phase, new sections on Quebec writers Hector de Saint-Denys Garneau and Jacques Brault bring a distinctly poetic flavour to our roster of featured Canadian writers. All of the writers featured on this site have deposited their papers with Library and Archives Canada. For each of the highlighted writers, information has been divided into three main sections: Cultural Context contains an essay, written by an authoritative scholar. Manuscript Gallery provides selected images of manuscripts, rough drafts, photographs, illustrations, notes, journal entries, notebook pages, letters and ephemera. Resources provides lists of books by and about the highlighted writers, as well as related websites. |
