About Faces of War

The digitized images used in Faces of War were selected from a unique collection of approximately 200,000 photographs taken by the official photographers of the Department of National Defence (DND) between 1939 and 1945. This group is part of the larger DND collection of 600,000 images covering the period 1919-1957 that is now held by Library and Archives Canada.
