Welcome Teachers! The Learning Centre has been developed to bring together educational resources for a rich learning experience. Library and Archives Canada (LAC) holds vast collections in history, literature and music. We are now in the process of making many of these holdings more accessible to you and your students through the Learning Centre. Whether you want ready-to-use lesson plans or classroom ideas that you can adapt to your students' particular needs, you will find it here. "Educational Resources" is a searchable database of teaching products, which has been developed to inspire learning and critical thinking. Classroom activities, quizzes, games and tutorials are also included. Qualified curriculum developers are creating curriculum-suited teaching units, on specific topics and for a variety of levels. Each unit will be accompanied by a group of carefully selected primary-source items. Students will be able to examine authentic historical documents and use critical thinking skills to form their own opinions. These primary-source teaching units will be added to "Educational Resources" as soon as they are available. Your students can learn about what really happened in Canada's past by examining the primary sources available in "The EvidenceWeb." This database offers a selection of objects grouped by theme with Canadian curricula in mind. You and your students can choose from photographs, illustrations, maps, letters, diary entries, political cartoons, newspaper articles, historical or literary documents and printed and recorded music. Your students can improve their learning skills by consulting the guides found in the "Toolkit." These guides cover a wide variety of topics such as how to use primary and secondary sources and develop Internet research skills. The answers to frequently asked questions on educational topics such as preventing plagiarism, using copyright-protected material and citing electronic sources can be found in "FAQ's for Teachers." The Learning Centre has been created for you and your students. Your comments, suggestions and ideas are important to us to ensure that we are meeting your needs. Please email any feedback to us, using the "Comments" or "Submit an Idea" buttons. Educational ResourcesThis database contains a wide variety of educational resources, created and approved by qualified educators, for use with various teaching styles and situations. You can search by keyword, title, subject, topic or grade. Choose from a selection of lesson plans, ideas and activities for the classroom, quizzes, games and tutorials on using primary sources. Resources have been developed for students from kindergarten through grade 12. Due to the differences in curricula across Canada, age-appropriateness of resources may require some interpretation by teachers.
