Scope and content
Illustrated publications acquired by the Archives for the Picture Division collection over a period of more than 100 years, including editions of Picturesque Canada (1882), Picturesque America (1880), Canadian Scenery (1840), American Scenery (1842), Thomas Pye's Views of Gaspé (1866), William Hickman's Sketches on the Nipisaguit (1858), George Catlin's North American Indians (1844), as well as many pre-1759 French texts, including Lafitau, Bacqueville de la Potherie, nad Le Beau; illustrated periodicals, including Dominion Illustrated (1888-1891) and Frank Leslie's Illustrated; as well as scrapbooks, including German World War I proclamations, and the Crown Collection of Maps.

Custodial history
From the origins of the Archives, illustrated books, periodicals, scrapbooks, albums, and compilations of visual material have been acquired for the purposes of reference, public consultation, and use. Althougth many of the publications were catalogued by the Library, many others have never been catalogued or accessioned.
