Flying High After 50,000 Tests

NRC Gives Aerospace Client Much Needed Chills

Last year, GE Aviation needed to complete icing certification tests on its new GEnx – a 75,000 lb thrust engine. So the company approached NRC Aerospace, which had two things in abundance – cold Canadian air and icing expertise. Within five months, NRC Aerospace and GE Aviation had built a new facility for icing certification tests on large engines at Montréal's Mirabel International Airport.

It might look like this helicopter is landing in a field, but to the pilot it's landing on the heaving deck of a ship at the sea. NRC's Bell 412 Advanced Systems Research Aircraft is one of the world's few airborne simulators.
